Description

World Learning is hiring a full-time Education USA Counselor. EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 430 international student advising centers in 178 countries and territories. The network promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited post-secondary institutions in the United States. EducationUSA also provides services to the U.S. higher education community to help institutional leaders meet their recruitment and campus internationalization goals. EducationUSA is the official source on U.S. higher education.


Missions

  • Create regular video and social media outreach materials to raise awareness and interest in studying at American institutions.
  • Provide educational advising services to students, parents and professionals seeking to study in the United States. Information is provided in person and via e-mail, website, web conferencing, social media, and telephone in both English and local language(s).
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of special advising programs such as one-on-one student advising, cohort advising, outreach programs, in-country training for new advisers, country workshops, and university fairs.
  • Foster opportunities for interaction between American and Algerian higher education institutions.
  • Provide information on education for U.S. and Algerian university representatives or other country inquiries.
  • Produce educational advising materials, such as handouts and site lists for specific fields of study.
  • Maintain contacts with individuals and organizations engaged in educational advising in and outside the United States.
  • Provide research services for office and country coordination inquiries on international student mobility.
  • Reporting: Maintain and report monthly statistics on center engagements, with highlights from weekly activity reports.
  • Maintain a database of advisees for center tracking purposes and/or center marketing of outreach, events, and/or activities.

Profile

Required Skills:

  • Education: Minimum- undergraduate degree, preferably from an accredited U.S. college or university. Master s degree desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability to describe and compare U.S. and Algerian educational systems.
  • Knowledge of both U.S. and Algerian cultures with experience living, working, or studying in both.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience, preferably in international education, program management, international relations, public relations or another related field.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English, French and Algerian Arabic.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, analytical, written and oral presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use suite of desktop applications, social media and other web tools.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to forge connections and work cooperatively with partners and stakeholders from various sectors.

Adviser Qualifications:

  • Education: Direct experience with the U.S. system of higher education is required, along with knowledge of the United States and Algerian educational systems. Current affiliation with an Algerian higher education institution is preferred. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English, French and Algerian Arabic are required. Previous experience in advising international students is helpful.
  •  Competent computer skills: Experience in word-processing, e-mail, PowerPoint, use of Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets and databases are preferred. Ability to manage various social media platforms: Facebook, Messenger Instagram, Twitter, various blogs; familiarity with on-line conferencing tools such as Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and/or others is required.
  •  Job Competencies : Work closely with the Program Director in planning, executing, and monitoring program activities. Must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines and expectations set by World Learning, the U.S. Embassy, and cooperating U.S. and Algerian higher education institutions. Must cooperate actively with the Regional Educational Advising Coordinator (REAC), U.S. Embassy colleagues and a large base of customers.
  •  Other skills and attributes: Demonstrate strong counseling, presentation, training and report writing, and customer service orientation skills required.
